“It is no small task to open a night, particularly one featuring artists of this breadth and calibre. Yet First Crimes, whose rousing set of lo-fi industrial was tantamount to a sonic avalanche, performed impressively. Dense, snowy sheets of noise stood like a monolith, with skittering melodies emerging like bacterial growth. For an opening DJ set, First Crimes was pleasingly well attended, a reflection of our increasingly varied tastes. Echoing the scorched-earth desolation of early Andy Stott, First Crimes set an appropriately overcast tone for the rest of the night.”
